Ahaguna G. Sun

Musician · Drummer · Vocalist · Songwriter · Producer

Ahaguna G. Sun, also known as Arnie Oliver, is a veteran musician whose musical journey spans more than five decades of soul, jazz-funk, and R&B.

Ahaguna is best known as the co-founder of Sunbear, the jazz-funk duo he formed with bassist and guitarist Werner “Bear” Schuchner. Their self-titled album was released in 1977 through Soul Train Records, the label founded by Don Cornelius and Dick Griffey. On the album, Ahaguna contributed lead vocals, drums, percussion, songwriting, keyboards, and production, creating a record that has since developed a lasting following among musicians, DJs, rare-groove enthusiasts, and vinyl collectors.

Ahaguna was also an original member of Frankie Beverly & Maze. He started his professional musical journey with the group during their Raw Soul days, and later contributed to the Golden Time of Day and Lovely Inspiration albums.

His career also features numerous collaborations across the music industry, contributing to projects with artists such as The Whispers, Carrie Lucas, and The Looters.

His later work includes Big Advice, a band he formed with his longtime friends and collaborators Bear Schuchner and Juan Nelson. The group released their album Love Shines in 2003.

Ahaguna’s creative journey still continues today. In 2024, he released “First Time,” a personal song inspired by his son’s first journey traveling far from home.

He is now preparing his first solo album, which he describes as a deeply personal project drawing from the people, relationships, music, and experiences that have shaped him throughout his life. Full Circle ft. Ahaguna G. Sun & Friends is currently set for release in Fall 2026!
